At Slate Roof Studio, we teach people how to be part of, create with, and play in a rock 'n' roll band. Professional instructors keep members on-beat, on-key, and inspired. Participants learn how to listen to and play with each other much more effectively and joyously. Students often return to their regular music classes with renewed interest and vigor. Our instructors encourage all participants to study a wide range of musical possiblities.
The instructors control our state-of-the-art mixing decks, and manage all instruments and vocals. The mixed and balanced music is returned through newly-developed headphones that dramatically cut ambient "live room" sounds. This gives the musicians a controlled sound, and allows each musician to easily hear themselves and each other in the mix.
The studio also has the capability to record sessions. We produce an end-of-workshop CD for participants to take home and share with friends and family.
Teen Rock Workshops The Teen Rock Workshop is an after-school program for kids ages 10 to 18, who are familiar with their instruments. The workshops are 2 hours each, once a week for eight weeks. There are are short breaks scheduled into all our workshops, to play, relax, etc. (See the Studio page for outdoor amenities).
We have sheet music to hundreds of appropriate, popular songs by almost every conceivable Western rock band or performer, so participants can choose their own music as a group (to see a partial list, go to or Sounds page). If a participant is unable to bring his/her own instrument, we have instruments in-house to borrow, such as a Nord Electro keyboard, a G&L L2000 bass guitar, a Pearl drum kit, a Strat-style guitar, shakers, tambourines, and more. We may be able to provide transportation after school. Please contact us for more info.
Adult Rock Workshops The Adult Rock Workshop runs for 2-1/2 hours, once a week for eight weeks. Our instructor is the incredibly talented Ric Wilson. His guitar and vocal talents have earned him three gold albums for recordings with folks such as Huey Lewis & The News, Tracy Chapman, David Crosby and Pete Escovedo, to name a few. His patient, humorous teaching technique works extremelywell, producing excellent results, and happy participants.
